Mark your calendars...

...for Wednesday, October 14th, 8 pm, Melanie Ewell's house. We will be discussing Desiree. Melanie read this back in high school and loved it; she liked that it was historical fiction so you can enjoy the story AND learn more about a period in history. My copy came today and Erica was right; I read the first line and can't wait to put my kids to bed tonight to continue! Here's a sneak peak:

A woman can usually get what she wants from a man if she has a well-developed figure. So I've decided to stuff four hankerchiefs into the front of my dress tomorrow...

You're excited now, aren't you?

Additionally, Melanie is making some French food for the occasion. If you have any French recipes or ideas, share them or bring them on the 14th. I may just bring my favorite food, too...

See you then!

Next few books plus anxiety plus ordering online

Since the thought of dragging a baby and a two year old to Barnes and Noble gives me a lot of personal anxiety, I order my books online. Do you?

So today I ordered Desiree online because I couldn't find it anywhere else including the library. Could you?

And then I decided to order the rest of the books for the year right now instead of month to month but I didn't know the rest of the books for the year. Did you?

So here they are.

Desiree

The Woman in White

Crossing to Safety

Peace Like a River

And here is a link to a cheap place to order books ($1 each) that Amy Leavitt told us about.

And since posts are boring without a picture, here's one I decided to throw in. Amy A. sent it to me and warns that if you look like this, you may have the swine flu and should stay home from work...

Have a great Sunday. And P.S. I hope I'm the only one who just ate a bag of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups today.

In case you missed it...

We met last night and discussed August's book. So much to talk about. If you have anything you need to get off your chest about the book, do it now. We'll listen.

I loved the book, did you?

October's Book -- DESIREE by Annemarie Selinko

Sarah McCoy will tell you this is September AND October's book since our schedule is off. However, we will consider this October's book since we will meet and talk about it IN October. I promise next year we'll be on schedule.

This month's pick is Desiree by Annemarie Selinko. Melanie Ewell chose the book and will be hosting the evening. Read more about it here. Has anyone started the book yet?

Oh, and by the way, if anyone needs the Russian version of the book, contact Allison Jolley. First come, first served...

Welcome

Welcome to the Hardcore Book Club. In this case, 'hardcore' means we aren't afraid of anything; give us a book and we'll read it. Only rules: NO Danielle Steele and NO vampires/werewolves.

This blog is meant to inform, interact and sometimes entertain. This way you always know what book we're reading, when the next get together is, and you can chat with other gals about books in the comfort of your own sweatpants.

If you have suggestions, conversation topics or questions, please leave them as a comment. Can you believe we're already at month 9 of books already?!
